The BioServe Network - A Collaborative Model to Enhance Biospecimen Access

BioServe gave a presentation detailing the BioServe Network program at the 4th annual Biospecimen Research Network (BRN) symposium last week.

Our poster was co-authored by members from each of the Network member institutions: Fox Chase Cancer Center, the Fairbanks Institute for Healthy Communities, UMass Medical School, the Windber Research Institute, and Maine Medical Center.  We generated a lot of positive feedback during the poster session on Monday night.

For me, the highlight of the BRN symposium didn't take place during the actual meeting however...

On Monday evening, we hosted a dinner for the BioServe Network members in attendance.  Several of BioServe team made the short trip down to Bethesday for dinner, as well.

It proved a great opportunity for all parties to put faces to names.  As expected, a lot of strong ideas came from the informal chit-chat over dinner and drinks.  One of the most exciting non-work related ideas focused on plans for the next informal BioServe Network get together...a golf outing.

BioServe is putting the details together for the first annual BioServe Network golf challenge later this Summer.  I'm pretty sure it'll probably be one of the first times you'll hear words like "formalin-fixed" and "RNA integrity number" on the golf course.  (And, yes, the trash talking about handicaps, putting and driving skills has already begun...)
