Fairbanks Institute for Healthy Communities: BioServe Network Member
INbank™ A next-generation biorepository
The Fairbanks Institute for Healthy Communities is conducting longitudinal cohort studies of the Indiana population to create INbank™, a next generation biorepository.
INbank was designed to facilitate discovery and validation research by linking biological samples with clinical outcomes data from the Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC), the nations’ most established, data-rich health data repository.
INbank™ can be used for genetic, pharmacogenomic, proteomic, and metabolomic research studies to identify and validate markers of disease and identify novel targets that can be used for diagnostic and therapeutic development. INbank’s unique combination of rich phenotypic data and high quality biological samples greatly enhances research in drug development, diagnostic discovery, validation studies, and companion diagnostic work. High quality DNA allows for investigations ranging from GWAS to more targeted candidate gene approaches. Serum, plasma, and samples collected for RNA extraction allow for direct studies on the human proteome, as well as RNA expression profiling and novel metabolomic research.
INbank™ can be queried to retrieve data on over 8,000 different clinical, laboratory related, and outcome variables making it possible to select specific patient cohorts for research studies and answer questions that cannot be answered with point in time data.
Key Features of INbank™ include:
- Use of the Central Indiana population, an ethnically diverse community with a stable residency
- Subject consent for longitudinal follow up via data available for research purposes in the INPC
- Collection of DNA, RNA, plasma, serum, and urine under standardized protocols
- Documented clinical diagnosis
- Age, gender and ethnicity/race matched cases and controls
- Medication history that includes prescription drug dose, frequency, length of treatment and adverse drug reactions, OTC medications and diet supplements
