CASE-CONTROL STUDIES

Case-control studies are expensive to conduct and require many years to complete. Case-control studies also require specialized personnel such as physicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, database developers, interviewers, phlebotomists, IRB coordinators and biorepository managers. BioServe Case-Control Plates offer DNA for epidemiologically sound studies for many illnesses. For each SNPlate™ category a second unique set of 180 cases and 180 controls will be available soon doubling sample size. BioServe also offers very affordable customized genotyping services using SNPlates™.

POLYMORPHISMS

It is estimated that there are over 7 million human single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A very small fraction of these SNPs directly influence the risk of disease. There is a need to screen polymorphisms for moderately penetrant genomic variants that will aid in the development of genomic signatures for illnesses.

THE DNA

Anonymous, delinked case (n=180) and age, gender and race matched (n=180) control DNA are plated from the BioServe's Global Repository of over 600,000 biospecimens. Lyophilized DNA samples (10 ng) are provided in 96-well plates. All samples have passes rigorous quality control tests including genotyping for 10 SNPs.

COVARIATE DATA

Covariate data including demographic data, diet data and clinical data will be provided at no cost. Anonymous IDs and DNA plate locations will link the samples to the covariate data.

IRB

DNA in case-control plates are completely anonymous and an letter is provided for submission to the investigator's IRB to further enhance the value of the SNPlates™.
